this class will give students a thorough understanding of this versatile medium
Every day will be a different technique and subject
matter that will introduce you to the fun of watercolor.
Learn methods and techniques of watercolor. Classes will be part demo and a lot
of hands on painting.
We can stay in the Gallery
and paint at night but no instruction. There are Restaurants near by for coffee
and stuff. This will be a fun and relaxing get away … Do some Plein air
painting in the evenings … get some good photos just enjoy the quiet
SUPPLIES FOR CLASS Bring
what you have - I will bring some supplies with me that are for sale from
Spokane Art Supply with the student discounts
Watercolor
Paper - Arches 140-lb. cold press. 2
large (22 x 30) sheets - Even if you feel you are “just practicing” you must
not substitute lesser papers, as the right paper is essential to learning
techniques.
Brushes - synthetic or sable watercolor
- 1” flat - 2” or 3” flat - #8 or 10
round - small round #5-7 - Bring what you have
Watercolor Palette with a fairly large mixing area I use the Aqua Pro - I prefer a large
white pallet with a lid to keep colors clean
Paints - already have colors, you
need not purchase new ones. It is best to have Artist Quality tube paint not
Student Grade bring what you have - You need a primary yellow Azo or Aureolin - primary red Magenta or Quinacridone Rose - primary blue Thalo
Extra colors - Raw Sienna - Indian Yellow - Alizarin Crimson
- Cobalt Blue - Prussian Blue - Cerulean Blue - Warm Orange - Dioxazine Purple
- Sap Green - Burnt Sienna - Rose Madder - Naples Yellow
Water containers - 2 Cottage Cheese Containers works - should be able to hold at least
a pint of water.
Sponge An
inexpensive grocery store sponge.
Paper towels - Viva is best
Masking tape 2 inch wide regular
tape and / or the blue painters tape easiest to remove
spray bottle
Pencil and eraser (suggest kneaded eraser)
Watercolor Board no bigger then 24”
x 20”
